In Nigeria, most health spending still comes straight out of a family's pocket. A single hospital stay can wipe out a year of savings, force a child out of school or push a trader to sell the stock that feeds the household.
We run 24 community clinics with the primary health centres in each local government area, staffed by nurses and community health workers we train and pay. Expectant mothers get four antenatal visits, a clean delivery kit and transport money for the birth. Every family in a GiversNG programme can join the state health insurance scheme with 70% of the premium covered by us for the first two years.
Clinic visits, referrals and insurance claims are logged on the same open ledger as every other Naira we spend.
